Gerade in jüngerer Zeit, in der man im Laufe seines Lebens mühelos vielen Gemeinschaften angehören kann, wird die Familie als die erste und unauflösbare Ur-Form von Community und Netzwerk interessant. Familienforscher sprechen von der Seele einer Familie, die sich über Generationen fortsetzt. Angela Dorrer kontaktierte die etwa 300 Dorrers, welche international verzeichnet waren, und bat sie darum, ihr ein Kleidungsstück zu schicken. Mittlerweile befinden sich über 100 Kleider aus Japan, Australien, Frankreich, Deutschland, Österreich und anderen Ländern in ihrem Besitz. Zu jedem Kleidungsstück existiert eine ganz persönliche Herkunftsgeschichte. Die Briefe, Kleider und Geschichten werden zum Material, mit dem die Künstlerin inhaltlich und formal weiterarbeit.
Since it has become easy to belong to many communities at the same time, the family as the first and irresolvable community and network has become more and more interesting. Family researchers are talking about the soul of a family that continues over generations. Using the concept of family as "prototypical community" as a point of departure Angela Dorrer contacted in writing every person who bears the "Dorrer" family name and asked to send her an item of clothing with a story attached that goes with it. From among 300 Dorrer recipients living in Germany, Great Britain, France, USA, Mexico, Chile, Australia and Japan she received, in a surprisingly short period of time, more than 100 pieces of clothing. The letters, clothes and personal stories become the material which she uses in installations, photographs and performances.
