ARTIST STATMENT
I was taught a strict division between with is inside and outside being. I see what lies inside as “mine”, and it melds with the image that I have made of myself, my system so to speak, my home or my identity. Here, my skin — or an always newly defined area — acts as a boundary. I attempted to adopt everything I considered good and useful. Everything that occurred outside this demarcated area, beyond the skin or boundary, and what I found less good, was considered fearful. It was damned to either be rejected or embraced, therefore it would move into my sense of order and thereafter no longer represent a threat. The recognition that I had to reject everything I could not assimilate led to insecurities in my behavior with myself and with my environment.
My method is the observation, the seduction and the inquiry into a multitude of relationships that include the viewer. I repeatedly deal with networks and the identity of communities. What motivates me is curiosity about various fields; the submission to situations and orchestrating them with the goal of creating very specific atmospheres and images. The research, the personal interactions, the stories and the final result are all equally important to me. I myself take on various roles in my projects. For me the inability to unify subjective-personal and distanced-analytical viewpoints represents an insoluble dilemma. I encounter this in that I very consciously choose to tread a thin line between both perspectives. Sometimes I control the situation from the outside; then I again become a part of the image created. I am fascinated by the moment of transition between the two areas, when something like the subjective moment refers to oneself and a general validity is therefore achieved. I capture the porosities and reversibilities between these areas in rituals of art. When I find the audience that allows the interchange between proximity and distance, an ideal form is achieved.
